Date: Dec 15 2004 From: DVB UNLD said no improvement in Burma despite releases of some prisoners The leader of the main ethnic alliance group from inside Burma said that the situation in Burma is not heading toward a positive direction despite the release of some political prisoners. U Htaung Ko Thang, an elected representative of the United Nationalities League for Democracy (UNLD) and member of the Committee for Representing People’s Parliament (CRPP), told DVB during the telephone interview from Oslo that the current political situation is not heading for the better but for the worst. He added that it is good to release the political prisoners but as long as Daw Aung San Suu is in detention, it will not help improve the situation. He also insisted that the problems of Burma are not only related to the military government but also the whole nation, and that they will be only solved when the whole nation is consulted.
